Read More	Beditha was the daughter John Arthur Boyse 1784-1866, and Mary Scrimpture 1789-1856. Beditha's sister, Ruth, married Alexander Q. Matthews' brother, Samuel Jerome Matthews. According to Alice Matthews Adams, Beditha had a warm loving personality she was also a staunch religious person. After Alexander's death, Mary Green Matthews, Alexander's mother went to live with Beditha. When her husband died Beditha didn't despair. She raised vegetables and fruit and managed to keep a cow also chickens on her farm so her children didn't go hungry. She raised sheep, sheared them herself, card the wool, spun it unto her spinning wheel and used the yarn thus made to convert into cloth on her little loom and so she clothe her children in homemade wool garments. Beditha helped Gilbert, her son, after the death of his wife. She moved in with Gilbert,where she helped in the rearing of her grandchildren, Vona and Delbert Matthews. Beditha's obituary reads: Mrs. Beditha Matthews, nee Boyse was born in Marion County, Tenn., May 29, 1828, died June 15, 1913. , died near Mint Hill. She was buried in the Harris Cemetery, next to her husband, Alexander Q. Matthews. Aged 85 years, 17 days. She united with the Methodist church while yet in the state of Tennessee. Her parents and entire family came to Missouri in 1846 and settled on a farm near Byron. On Feb. 10, 1848 she was married to A. Q. Matthews and with him moved on a farm near Mint Hill now owned by her son, Gilbert D. Matthews, where she lived until her death. Becoming dissatisfied with the doctrine and practice of the Methodist church she united with the Regular Primitive Baptist church and lived a devout Christian life. The deceased had 6 brothers and 4 sisters namely, William, Geo. W., Samuel, Crawford, Henry and Thomas J. Boyse and Sarah Francis (the only one now living aged 95 years) Elizabeth Matthews, Ruth Matthews and Winnie Johnson. She gave birth to six children. Elder John Frank Matthews, a minister of the Regular Primitive Baptist church. Lydia Pummell, a member of the Missionary Baptist, Elder S. J. Walker Matthews, also a member of the Missionary Baptist church, Claiborne L. Matthews, a member of the Presbyterian church, a school teacher for 23 years, Sarah A. Starr, a member of the Christian church, Gilbert D. Matthews, a member of the Missionary Baptist church. John F., Sarah and Gilbert D. are the only surviving children. Also 29 grand-children and 38 gr. grandchildren. A large host of relatives and friends attended the funeral services. The undersigned sought to speak words of comfort and admonition from Heb. 4-9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to people of God."
