''''''''''''''''''''' The Genoa Leader, December 8, 1922, p. 1, col. 2 ALFRED BRATT We are called upon this week to chronicle the death of one of our prominent citizens, Alfred Bratt, president of the Monroe Independent Telephone Company, who died at his home in this city last Friday morning from the effects of a paralytic stroke. Mr. Bratt had been in poor health the last year or two gradually failing until a couple weeks ago he suffered a stroke from which he failed to recover. The deceased has been a long resident of this city having been engaged in the mercantile business prior to his connection with the telephone company. The deceased was born in Kenowa, Illinois in 1854. Later in life he came to Nebraska locating at Bennett coming to Genoa in the early 90's. He leaves an aged wife and six children to mourn his demise, namely: Mrs. H. E. King of Belgrade, Mrs. Eckley of New York, Mrs. B. D. Gorman, P. O. Pugsley and A. G. Lawson of Genoa and Harry of Albion. The funeral was held Monday at their home and the remains laid to rest in the Valley View cemetery. Bratt president and principal stockholder of the Monroe Independent Telephone company, died at his home here at 2 a.m. Saturday. He had been in ill health the past two years. Three weeks ago a paralytic stroke rendered him bedfast, and his death followed another stroke Friday night. He was 68 years old. Mr. Bratt had been a prominent resident of Genoa for 20 years. He was the prime mover in the organization of the Monroe Telephone Company 18 years ago and under his management it has become one of the most successful of the independent companies in the state. He leaves a wife, five daughters and one son to mourn his loss. The funeral was held Monday from the home and the remains were laid to rest in Valley View cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in this their saddened hour. All the business houses closed from 1 o'clock until after the funeral.
