Description	:	Alfred Cernousek, son of Frank and Frances (Malady) Cernousek, was born June 30, 1912, at Walnut, Nebraska. He attened Ruth School District #61 through the eighth grade. He attened Ruth School District #61 through the eighth grade. On June 6, 1941, Alfred married Ruth Kriz at Neligh, NE. From this marriage three children were born to them: Gloria, Alfred Jr., and a daughter who died in infancy. Alfred was a lifelong farmer, and farmed the family farm west of Verdigre until moving to town in 1986.. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge, a member of the District #61 School Board, and a Farmer's Union Board member.. Alfred is rembered by his family and friends as a man of integrity. He placed a high priority in helping his children understand the value of dealing with people honestly and truthfully in all works of life. Alfred loved his music and played the push button accordion since the age of 10. Laterin life he formed a polka band known in the early years as Alfred's Bohemian Band, and in later years as Alfred and Friends. He andhis band played for many house parties and barn dances all over Northeast Nebraska. He was a self-taught muscian who didn't read music but was noted for his two original songs, Alfred's Waltz and Alfreds Polka. The music of these two songs hangs today on the wall of his family home.. As a lifelong farmer, Alfred grew corn, oats, and raised cattle, and milked cows, He was proud that he farmed the family farm homesteaded by his father and that it still remains in the family after 100 years.. An avid runner and lover of baseball and horsehoes. Alfred known for his athletic abilities. Often after cultivating the field with horses, Alfred could be seen running to Jelen to play baseball and then running home again to take care of the evening chores.. Alfred passed from this life pril 12, 2000, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, his daughter, Gloria, and husband Glen Volquardsen of Orchard, Ne and son, Alfred, Jr. and wife Bernice Cernousek of Kearney, NE., five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a niece.. He was proceeded in death by his parents, one daughter in infancy, a brother, Edward Cernousek: and a sister, Mary Vakoc.. Alfred will be remembered by his many friends and family, who when they came to visit,upon their leaving he would say to them..."I don't say goodbye, I say "So Long.".
