He was born on March 15, 1920 in Greenwood County, the son of Walter and Edna (Cain) Ward. He was raised and attended school in the Neal and Fall River area. On Dec. 2, 1940 he was united in marriage to Freda Mitchell in McPherson. They made their home on the Ward Farm between Neal and Fall River until the mid 1950s when the family moved to Toronto. He was born on March 15, 1920 in Greenwood County, the son of Walter and Edna (Cain) Ward. He was raised and attended school in the Neal and Fall River area. On Dec. 2, 1940 he was united in marriage to Freda Mitchell in McPherson. They made their home on the Ward Farm between Neal and Fall River until the mid 1950s when the family moved to Toronto. In 1967 the family moved to Eureka. He worked as a farmer before he began his career with the KS Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in the early 1980s. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Toronto. He is survived by his wife Freda of the home; one son Don Ward of Mulvane; one daughter Marilyn Fuhlhage of Eureka; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Stewart of the Bible Baptist Church and Rev. Diana Hill of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
