Description	:	Alfred Korb was born to Henry and Magdalena Korb on August 23, 1918 at his parents' farm near Colome, South Dakota. Alfred's father died when he was 18 months old. Alfred attended Central School near his home and the German Congregational Church near Millboro, SD. After Alfred completed 8th grade, he and his older brother Ted worked together on the family's farm until Alfred was drafted into the Army in the fall of 1941. Read More	Alfred Korb was born to Henry and Magdalena Korb on August 23, 1918 at his parents' farm near Colome, South Dakota. Alfred's father died when he was 18 months old. Alfred attended Central School near his home and the German Congregational Church near Millboro, SD. After Alfred completed 8th grade, he and his older brother Ted worked together on the family's farm until Alfred was drafted into the Army in the fall of 1941. Alfred was stationed for two years at Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he served as a German POW interpreter. In 1943, he was sent to Europe as a Provost Marshal and continued working as an interpreter. He was discharged in the fall of 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Alfred was united in marriage to Betty May Clark at Star Prairie Church on December 10, 1947. They established their home on a farm in rural Tripp County, where they raised their family of six children. Alfred and Betty were active members of Star Prairie Baptist Church near Clearfield and later attended First Baptist Church in Winner. In 1982 Alfred sold the farm and he and Betty moved to Winner, where they resided until their deaths. Alfred died November 8, 2001. Services were held on November 14 at First Baptist Church in Winner with Rev. Dennis Webber officiating. Alfred was survived by his wife, Betty; three sons and two daughters; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Meyer of Clearfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim; one grandson, Andrew Korb; three brothers and two sisters.
