Description	:	Alfred Leeson was born August 30, 1841 in Sheffield, England. When he was just a few months old his family left for America. Alfred became very ill on the trip & it was feared he would not survive. Upon arrival in America the Leeson families settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In 1863 the family moved to Clarke Co. Iowa. Read More	Alfred Leeson was born August 30, 1841 in Sheffield, England. When he was just a few months old his family left for America. Alfred became very ill on the trip & it was feared he would not survive. Upon arrival in America the Leeson families settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In 1863 the family moved to Clarke Co. Iowa. There on November 2, 1872 Alfred married Mary Hays. They were the parents of 3 children: F. Pearl, Bertha, & Bessie. After his wife Mary's death in 1893, Alfred married Dora Elsie Pinegar on March 18, 1896 in Wapello Co. Iowa. They had 3 children: Frank, Grace, & Eva. Alfred worked the family farm & raised prized horses he shipped back to England for sale. He was involved in an accident on his farm when a team of horses spooked & went out of control. While standing, trying to regain control, he was thrown into a tree, breaking his neck. A surgeon from Des Moines was called in to no avail. He died 3 days later on September 17, 1900. His daughter Bessie was with him when the accident occurred, but was not injured. Funeral services were held from the home on September 19th.
