He married Martha Patience Fricknall April 23, 1839 at Southwell. They were the parents of 5 children, the first 2, Anna & Alfred, were born in England. On May 14, 1842 they set sail for America arriving in New York 6 weeks later. The family settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts where they lived for more than 20 years.
