Son of James Molesworth and Elizabeth "Betsy" Connell OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD Chariton, Iowa Thursday, February 23, 1905 BELINDA Alfred Molesworth was born at Deersville, Harrison Co., Ohio, Jan. 26th, 1828, and departed this life at Belinda, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1905, aged 77 years and 15 days. The deceased settled on his farm in Pleasant township in March, 1855 and lived there continuously until four years ago, when, on account of failing health, he moved to Belinda, where he resided until death. On March 21, 1855, he was married to Mary Jane Kiger, who for almost 50 years, trod with him life's changing pathway, and who now mourns his death as only those can who have so long enjoyed such companionship. Their union was blessed with 12 children, four dying in infancy, eight daughters having grown to womanhood. Of these, six remain with the aged mother to mingle their tears in mutual sorrow. In early life Mr. Molesworth affiliated with the M. E. church and previous to his death expressed himself as ready and waiting for the final summons. He was a type of that rugged honesty, industry and perserverance that so well fitted him for the hardy life of a pioneer. It was his privilege to witness many changes in the worlds progress. Entering life with the introduction of the steam railway, he lived to see the country a network of railways. During his life the cradle, and the spinning wheel were superceded by the modern harvester and immense factories. The slow messenger gave way to the electric courier as news was flashed across the continent and around the world. When he came to Iowa there were but three families whom he could find for neighbors, and when his last illness occurred it was but a few moments until the telephone had borne the news to scores that the bowed form was probably fatally stricken. Funeral services were conducted from the Pleasant Prairie church at 1 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Palmer of Chariton assisted by F. E. Boren of Des Moines, eulogizing the life of the deceased and extending words of sympathy to the bereaved. The remains were then conveyed to the Strong cemetery and tenderly laid to rest, thus closing the last chapter of the life of one who had borne life's burdens with courage and determination, and who, when life's evening came, quietly laid aside his work upon earth to enter into eternal rest.
