MOLESWORTH Mary Jane Kiger, oldest daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Huffman Kiger, was born in Venango county, Penn., March 28, 1835, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lula Pierschbacher, near Belinda, May 15, 1918, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 17 days. When about ten years of age she moved with her parents to Indiana, came to Iowa some three years later, settling first in Jefferson county, coming to Marion county a year later, locating near Columbia. She was married to Alfred Molesworth March 21, 1855, and moved to the farm just over the line in Lucas county, where they lived until 1901, when they moved to Belinda, where the husband died in 1905. The deceased was the mother of twelve children, four dying in infancy, eight daughters having grown to womanhood, two of these having preceded her in death, Lizzie and Jessie. The remaining six daughters are: Barbara M. Spiker, Minnie C. Carson, Lillie M. Wayland, Lula E. Pierschbacher, Elsie J. Bingaman and E. Lois Dawson, all of whom were with her in her last illness. Mrs. Molesworth was converted when but a young woman, uniting with the Methodist Episcopal church, to which church she remained loyal till death, passing from the church militant to the church triumphant, with the admonition to her children to be kind to one another and meet her in heaven. The passing of "Grandma" Molesworth removes from the neighborhood the last of the pioneers of the early '50s. Courageous, industrious and self-reliant, and of a naturally cheerful disposition, she was well fitted for the trials, privations and hardships incident to the early settlement of the country. Generous and kind-hearted, no call for suffering was ever in vain. Besides her daughters there remain two sisters: Mrs. Barbara Agan and Mrs. Julia Stapp, of Columbia, and one brother, Andrew Kiger, of Woodbine, Iowa, thirty-two grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
