Description	:	The following information was obtained from the Gresham Centennial History Book: Vol.1 Alfred Wade Sperry and Bertha Junet Olson were married May 1, 1912 in Urbana, IL. Wade, as he was always called, was born in Wisconsin on February 6, 1870, second son of Ami D. Sperry and Mary Louisa Knouse. His parents homesteaded five miles east of Gresham in January 1872, and Wade grew up there on his parent's farm. Read More	The following information was obtained from the Gresham Centennial History Book: Vol.1 Alfred Wade Sperry and Bertha Junet Olson were married May 1, 1912 in Urbana, IL. Wade, as he was always called, was born in Wisconsin on February 6, 1870, second son of Ami D. Sperry and Mary Louisa Knouse. His parents homesteaded five miles east of Gresham in January 1872, and Wade grew up there on his parent's farm. He survived the epidemics which took the lives of several of his brothers and sisters, seven of whom are buried in Ulysses. Wade worked hard and earned his own land. He built a house on his farm in 1910. The farm was located a mile north of his father's homestead. Wade and Bertha had five children: Lillian Rachel, Mary Louise, John Wade, Barbara Jaunett, and Edward Gene. In 1925, they left the farm because of Wade's legs, worn out from al ifetime of hard work farming. They bought an unfinished home from Ben Brown in the northeast corner of Gresham. Wade built the porches, finished the closets, plumbing and sidewalks. They always had a cow and large garden and it was here their children grew up. Later, Wade, Bertha, and youngest son, Edward, moved to York, NE. where Wade passed away from the effect of a stroke on July 12, 1941.
