Thompson, Everett Hauke, George Fredericks, Ed Powers, and Will Cunningham acting as pallbearers. Alice Hadley was born in Sandy Creek, New York, on May 4, 1851. She grew to womanhood in Sandy Creek, New York. On November 26, 1868, she was united in marriage to Lester Houghton, a veteran of the Civil War. In March of 1872, they came to Nebraska, and settled on a homestead eight miles north of Wood River where they resided for seventeen years. Three children were born to this union: Jacob Houghton of Upton, Wyoming, Rice who died in infancy, and Edith Conn Schepers of Shelton, Nebraska. Also one brother, and one sister are left to mourn her loss: Mr. Arthur Hadley of Sandy Creek, New York, and Mrs. Nellie Scott of Ellisburg, New York. She was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1879, and later was a member of the Evangelical Church in Cameron, and on moving to Wood River she returned to the Methodist Episcopal Church where she has since remained. Her husband, Lester Houghton passed away on January 7, 1907. Alice Houghton was a very estimable and esteemed woman, and leaves a wide circle of loving friends and acquaintances to mourn her demise.
