Description	:	Alice Hoag Cook was born of William Henry and Hannah Hoag at Pleasant Plaine, IA, on March 3, 1876. Early in her life the family moved to a farm northeast of Waukee. Her schooling was in a rural country schoolhouse, from thence to the Earlham Academy and completed at the Iowa State Normal School at Cedar Falls which was later known as the Iowa State Teachers College. Following her graduation from Cedar Falls, she taught in the rural schools of Dallas County for several years. Alice Hoag united in marriage with Cyrus Ernest Cook at Waukee on June 29, 1904. They continued to make their home near Waukee. Both were birthright members of the Friends Church and taught and conducted services in a Friends congregation northeast of Waukee. Later in life they became members of the Waukee Methodist Church where they served in various capacities as teachers and laymen in the Sunday School and Church. Alice Cook enjoyed her associations and was an active member of the church; the Kings Daughters class; and the Waukee Woman's Club. Alice Cook passed away October 21, 1959, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA, after a brief illness. She leaves to mourn a son, Lawrence, his wife, Marlys; three grandchildren, Randy, Marilyn and Brian; many nieces and nephews and a score of friends. Contributor: JeanE Mark
