Description	:	Alice Louise (McGinnis) Gray, of Springfield, formerly of Maryville, Missouri, went to her eternal home on February 28, 2017, her 92nd birthday, to celebrate with her devoted husband, Quentin Gray, who preceded her In death. She was surrounded by her devoted family, by her side at James River Skilled and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. She was surrounded by her devoted family, by her side at James River Skilled and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. Alice was born on February 28, 1925, to James and Grace McGinnis, who preceded her in death. She started her life on a small farm, southwest of Maryville. She was one of many siblings. Stories of school days at Swallow, the one room school house, always included the walks to school in the snow and the rides on her favorite pony. She continued her education, graduating from Maryville High and going on to further her education at Northwest State Teachers College, now known as Northwest Missouri State University. Gaining a teacher certificate, she taught at Olwell School. Alice married Quentin Gray on December 16, 1944. Together, they had two children, Linda (Gray) Garvin, Springfield, and Gloria (Gray) Akly, Marietta, Georgia. As a dedicated mother, Alice was always at home to care for her family. She would lend a helping hand or ear, care for a wound or just be a playmate to her daughters and their friends. Alice became active in the PTA at the local, as well as, the district level as her children became school age. Home room mother was another attribute. Alice served as a Girl Scout leader for each daughters troop. She was elected president of the Girl Scout Association in 1959. Her accomplishments did not stop there. Alice served as president of the 20th Century Club, The Mutual Improvement Club and The Soroptimist Club of Maryville. She headed many committees within the Methodist Church. Alice did volunteer work for the Red Cross for over 25 years, serving in many capacities. She delivered Meals on Wheels for the elderly. With all these accomplishments, Alice was elected Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1960. No one was more dedicated as she held or served on a total of 15 offices, positions or committees. Alice could find time for her family and grandchildren. One could often hear one of the grandchildren say "play cards." Known as Grandma or Bobby, she was right there for them. When asked what she enjoyed, her reply was always: "Family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and time for some bridge." She always put everyone above herself. Preceding her in death were: her parents, James and Grace McGinnis; sisters, Mary Jane Thompson Madden and Grace Lee New; brothers, Glen McGinnis and Denton McGinnis; half sisters, Roma Stark and Thelma Wilson; and a half brother, Merrill McGinnis. Alice is survived by: two daughters, Linda (Gray) Garvin and husband David, Springfield, and Gloria (Gray) Akly and husband Tony, Marietta. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Heather (Garvin) Womack and husband Tate, Hillary Garvin, Ryan and Jonathan Akly; and two greatgrandchildren, Hayden and Kyndall Womack. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, at the First United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will at the Miriam Cemetery.
