Alice was an orphan at age 9 and lived in a foster home until she enrolled in a nurses training program at St. Catherine's Hospital in Omaha, Nebr. She became a registered nurse in 1914. Alice was called to the Schleswig, Iowa area to serve as a nurse dur~ ing the "flu" epidemic of 1918~ 1919. Alice married August Edward (Jimmy) Schultz Sept. 4, 1919 in a public ceremony on Soldiers' Homecoming Day. Alice served her community as a nurse, and assisted her husband in the Schultz Phar~ macy and Schultz Hatchery. She was widowed in 1930 when Jimmy died. She remained in the Schultz Hatchery business until her death Aug. 7, 1939. Alice was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She was buried at St. Paul's Cemetery in Hanover Township. Alice had one daughter, Alice Elaine Schultz. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Funeral Services for Mrs Alice Schultz Today Profound grief was manifest in Schleswig when it was learned of the death of Mrs. Alice Schultz Monday night. She had been ill for a long time, and for the past sev~ eral weeks has been confined to her bed. The life story of Alice Schultz, nee Miner was closed Monday night August 7th, by death. It was a story of a valient struggle with the prob~ lems of life with the afflictions which beset her way, and finally with sickness and with death. Mrs. Alice Schultz was born in St. Paul, Minn., on March 5, 1894. At the age of eleven, when the care and love of a mother is need~ ed the most, she lost her mother. The duties and work which at that time were placed upon her young shoulders caused her to look for a profession in which she could serve her fellow men, and for this reason she entered nurse's train~ iig in Omaha. After her gradnation, the prac~ tice of her profession brought her to Schleswig; and It was here she met A. E. Schultz, whom she mar~ ried on Sept. 3 1919. One child, a daughter, was born to this union. However, only eleven years of wedded life were her portion; for this union was terminated by the death of her husband on April 12, 1930. Again her brave spirit asserted itself, and alone she operated the hatchery just installed before her husband's death. And finally she began her last struggle with a sickness which brings despair to many. With the same determination and courage she sought to overcome this foe; but the struggle ended Monday night and her sufferings on this earth were finished. She was a member of the local Lutheran church and active in church work. She had attained the age of 45 years, 5 months and 2 days. She leaves to mourn her death, her daughter, Elaine, her sister, Grace Sistek, Omaha, and her bro~ ther, Art Miner of Ogden, a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1:30 at Gott~ burg's Funeral Home, and at 2:00 o'clock from the Immanuel Luth~ eran church, with Rev. E. F. Sch~ widder in charge of the services. Burial will be made by the side of her husband in the Hanover ceme~ tery. The business places of Schles~ wig will be closed from 1:30 until 3:00 during the funeral services. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
