Read More	Cherokee Sentinel, Feb. 14, 1919, page 1: Obituary Mary Alice Sheldon was born in Keene, Essex county, New York, April 8, 1857, and departed this life February 5, 1919, being 61 years, 9 months and 28 days old at the time of her decease. Her parents moved from New York to Elwood, Will county, Ill. when she was eight years old, where she grew to womanhood. On March 23, 1872 she was united in marriage to Dennis Burns. To this union two daughters were born, Ida Elvira and Ada Alta. In 1876 they moved to Crawford county, Kansas and settled on a farm six miles west of Cherokee, where they lived until the spring of 1883 (when) they moved to West Pine street, Cherokee. June 9th, 1896 her husband departed this life, also the eldest daughter, Ida E. Hickox, (whose) death preceded the death of her father only three weeks. November 10, 1910 she was united in marriage to John Wesley Holstine. They moved to the farm five and one half miles north west of Cherokee, where they resided until December 23d, 1916, (when) they moved to the present home. Mrs. Alice Holstine was born of Christian parentage of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was reared to womanhood where the family altar of prayer was observed twice a day. At the age of ten years she gave her heart to God, and later united with the Methodist Episcopal church. Endowed with a sunny disposition, she was foremost in looking for the best and brighter things in life. For years she had to sacrifice her aspirations and enthusiasm on account of poor health. She was a real Christian soldier and died in the triumph of a living faith, and was always patient and kind to everyone. She is survived by her faithful and devoted husband, her loving daughter, Mrs. Ada A. Halley of this city, three granddaughters, Alta Murl Hickox of Fort Scott, Kansas, Ila Eulalla and Virgie Roene Halley of this city, one sister, Mrs. Ida Hall of Hutchinson, Kansas, several nieces, only one being present, Mrs. George Hickox of Fort Scott, Kans., a nephew, Frank E. Bush of Kansas City, Mo., many other relatives and score of friends who mourn her loss. We believe she is coronated with the redeemed. Contributed by Cheryl White
