Description	:	Maude Alice Howell, daughter of Moses and Alice Simpson, was born July 21, 1887 near Munden, Kans. She passed from this earth Wednesday, March 6, 1968 at the Blue Valley Rest Home in Hebron at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 14 days. She attended public schools in Chester, Nebr., and also was a member of the Christian Church. On April 15, 1908 she was united in marriage to Jacob Rozell Howell. Read More	Maude Alice Howell, daughter of Moses and Alice Simpson, was born July 21, 1887 near Munden, Kans. She passed from this earth Wednesday, March 6, 1968 at the Blue Valley Rest Home in Hebron at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 14 days. She attended public schools in Chester, Nebr., and also was a member of the Christian Church. On April 15, 1908 she was united in marriage to Jacob Rozell Howell. To this union were born five sons and four daughters. Most of her life was spent in Thayer County. Shortly after her husband's death Oct. 13, 1957, she resided at the home of her daughter, Rozelle, and the last eight years of her life were spent in rest homes in Hebron. She was a living mother and a sweet and sincere friend and neighbor. She'll long be remembered for her many artistic talents. She kept busy with her many handicrafts until shortly before her death. Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers and sisters; her husband; one daughter, Thelma Belle Lopez. She leaves to mourn her passing, five sons, George of Belvidere, Ill., Eldon of Lincoln, Delmar of Wichita, Kans., Dale of Yamhill, Ore., and Loren of Genoa, Ill.; three daughters, Helen, Mrs. Glen Ritterbush, and Winifred, Mrs. Garland Thompson, of Belleville, Ks., and Rozelle, Mrs. E.H. Kleveland of Chester; 32 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Art Hull of Diller; one brother, Leon Simpson of Chester, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday morning, March 9, at the Chester Christian Church with Dennis Davenport officiating. Mrs. Dennis Davenport sang, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Truss. The casketbearers were Ronald Ritterbush, Richard Ritterbush, Charles Kleveland, James Kleveland, Dennis Thompson and Jack Thompson, all grandsons. Interment was in the Chester Cemetery, Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In her memory, a poem found in her Bible: "A Tribute to Mother" The best friend you have is your Mother No matter what others may say. She toils and she plans for your future, From morning till evening each day. She stays awake nights when you're missing, She worries and frets while you roam, Unwilling to sleep for a moment Lest tragedy sadden the home. She shares all your trials and burdens Tho' you stray from the pathway of right; She'll never forget nor forsake you While others may sneer at your plight. She keeps the house shining and cheerful, She keeps the clothes spotless and white. It wouldn't be home without Mother To answer your call through the night. What are you doing for Mother In exchange for her service and care? If you have any roses to give her Don't wait for the old vacant chair. For soon she'll be crossing the valley Where troubles will haunt her no more, Free from all suffering and sorrow, Safe on that beautiful shore. Don't trust your friends with your secrets, No matter how loyal they seem. The best friend you have is your mother, America's uncrowned queen.
