Godman, one of Crisfield's best loved and most highly respected women, was laid to rest in the Crisfield cemetery last Monday afternoon. Miss Godman who, with Mrs. C. E. Collins, Mrs. H. F. Moore and Mrs. Fannie Parks; of Crisfield; accompanied by Mrs. Mary Boston Mules and little son of Baltimore, were motoring home after a pleasant visit with relatives in the Monumental City, were nearing Preston on the Eastern Shore, last Friday afternoon when a truck going in the same direction sideswiped the large Studebaker driven by Mrs. Collins, forcing it into the sand on the roadside and, before the driver could recover control, the local car struck a pole, causing the death of Miss Godman and the injury of several other members of the party. As soon as the accident occurred Messrs. Fred L. Godman and Wm. E. Godman, brothers of the deceased sped to the scene in a high powered automobile and assisted in conveying the remaining members of the party to the Emergency Hospital in Easton where they were given treatment. A local undertaker brought the body of Miss Alice Godman to Crisfield Saturday afternoon and the other members of the party returned to their respective homes on Sunday. The deceased, Miss Alice Godman was 65 years of age and was held in high esteem and greatly loved by a host of friends not only in Crisfield, but throughout Somerset county, the entire Eastern Shore and in adjoining states. Hundreds of letters, telephone calls and telegrams, from a radius of several hundred miles, have reached family within the last few days, each expressing regret at the sudden death of one of Crisfield's most lovable women. Funeral services were held at the late home on lower Main Street at 2.30 last Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. L. Hoffman, pastor of Mt. Pleasant M. P. Church, assisted by Rev. John J. Bunting, of Immanuel, and Rev. J. Pendletan Scruggs, pastor of the Baptist Temple. Interment was in the Godman burying ground in the Crisfield cemetery. The pall bearers were—Frank Jones, H. E. Tilghman, Austin Loreman, Bennett Pusey, S. A. Maddrix and H. F. Moore. The deceased is survived by three brothers—Wm. E. Godman and Fred L. Godman, of Crisfield; and Warren Godman, of Coles Point, Va. One sister, Mrs. Fannie G. Parks, of Crisfield, also survives. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Saturday, May 14, 1932, p. 1
