MARION - Alice May Moore James, 92, of Marion passed away on Monday, February 9, at her home after an illness. Alice May was born September 3, 1922 in Miami, Florida, a daughter of Clement and Olive Smith Moore. She was the eldest of four children. She graduated from Miami Senior High School in 1940 and soon thereafter met her future husband, M. L. James of Marion, while he was visiting Miami. Alice May and M. L. were married in June 1942 and made their home in Marion. She was a generous person sharing whatever she had with others. She was an avid gardener, producing many times the vegetables needed for her own family so she could give to her family and friends. She loved growing beautiful day lilies. The magic words around her were "let's go." She was ready to travel at a moment's notice and was blessed with travels throughout the US and Europe. She was a devoted Christian lady who loved Christ, her church and the fellowship of her pastor and church family. Alice May is predeceased by her husband and parents; a sister, Betty Moore Price; two brothers, Robert Moore and Jerry Moore; two sons, Tommy James and Clyde James; and an infant granddaughter, Amanda Renee James. She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (John) Baum of Florence, two sons, Martin L (Doris) James of Conway and Bill James of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 6 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church in Marion, with graveside services to follow in the church cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion.
