James, 67, of Marion, passed from this earthly life peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 06, 2011 after a long illness and courageous battle and with his family and friends at his bedside. Clyde was born in Rains on December 13, 1943 to Alice May Moore James and the late Martin L. "M. L." Clyde married Susan Cribb on August 22, 1986. MARION - Clyde E. James, 67, of Marion, passed from this earthly life peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 06, 2011 after a long illness and courageous battle and with his family and friends at his bedside. Clyde was born in Rains on December 13, 1943 to Alice May Moore James and the late Martin L. "M. L." James, Sr. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Florence Darlington Technical College. He served his country for six years as a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Clyde had been a Mason since 1971 and was a member of Clinton Lodge # 60 and a member of the Omar Temple of the Shrine since 1977. He was an accomplished farm, construction equipment and truck mechanic, learning the trade from his father at an early age and through years of experience. He was a long time successful businessman, operating James Equipment Repair and Wrecker Service. He was a founding and organizing member of the Towing & Recovery Association of South Carolina, where he served as a Director from its founding in 1990 to his death. He also served two terms as President of that organization and was always a dedicated and hardworking member. In addition to his mother of Marion, Clyde is survived by his wife, Susan; a daughter, Shelia C. (Louis) Harrelson of Marion; a sister, Beverly (John) Baum of Florence; two brothers, Martin L. (Doris) James, Jr. of Conway and Bill James of Fort Lauderdale, Fl.; and 2 granddaughters. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p..m. Tuesday, November 8 in the Funeral Chapel of Smith-Collins Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Darrell Floyd and Mr. Doug Hooks officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Branch Cemetery.
