Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville. Alice May Murphy was born in Riceville, Iowa on May 12, 1953, the daughter of Eugene and Mavis (Prochaska) Murphy. She received her special education in Riceville, Cresco and Osage. Alice was a special person who was inseparable from her sister and her mother. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, both flowers and produce. Alice won many blue ribbons on her flowers and canned the produce from her garden. She loved to play cards, especially "500" and she enjoyed people and was a foster mother to her nieces, nephews and all of the children who grew to love her. In later years, she became the cook for the family. She was blessed and will be missed by many. Alice is survived by her mother, Mavis of Nora Springs; three sisters: Linda (Richard) Ott of Nora Springs, Ann (Dean) Ott of Marble Rock, IA and Lorie Murphy of Nora Springs, IA, and two nieces, three nephews, four great nieces and four great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father in 1996 and a brother Eugene Jr.
