Description	:	Alice S. Hendricks, age 100, formerly of Vanlue, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at her home away from home in Birchaven Village in Findlay. Hendricks, age 100, formerly of Vanlue, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at her home away from home in Birchaven Village in Findlay. On August 18, 1921, Alice was born in Bloomdale, Ohio, the oldest of eight children of the late Hepron C. and Idella M. (Dillon) Steiner. She graduated from Arcadia High School in the class of 1939, and then went to work at the Boss Glove Factory in Findlay. One fateful night at the Green Mill Gardens Roller Rink, Alice met her future husband, Rex V. Hendricks, a young veteran of the US Army. They were married shortly thereafter on November 21, 1943, at the parsonage of the EUB church in Vanlue, while he was on leave from the Army. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and lovingly raised two daughters: Linda and Pamela. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2004. While her daughters were growing up, Alice enjoyed being a homemaker. Once they were both in high school, she went to work at Vanlue Schools in their cafeteria, retiring after 20 years there. Very faithful, Alice was an active member of the Vanlue Community Church for most of her life, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary/treasurer, and on their missionary society. She also was a member of the Ohio Rebekah Assembly in Vanlue. An excellent cook and baker, Alice was known by many for her decorated butter cookies. She always had a list of people to get them too whenever she made them. She also was an avid reader, who especially loved an inspirational story. During their younger years, Alice and Rex loved to go roller skating. They traveled throughout Ohio and the surrounding states to show off their skills at all of the roller rinks they could find, collecting a patch from each one along the way. Having a heart of gold, Alice always saw the best in everything and everyone. She also loved to help others however she could. She will be missed by her two daughters: Linda (Duane) Fry of Findlay, and Pamela (Clifford) Lanker of Carey; five grandchildren: Daniel Fry, Ronald Fry, Laura (Brad) Breece, Heather (Chris) Truman, and Christopher (Jenna) Lanker; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her youngest brother, Hubert Steiner of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Including her husband and parents, Alice was preceded in death by her twin sister, Alma Insley; three sisters: Carrie Frizzell, Corrine Bauer and Verna Smelser; and two brothers: Wilbur and Carl Steiner. Her family will greet friends from 4 – 8 pm on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey. Services honoring her life will also be held there at 11 am on Saturday, with Pastor Melanie Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Bloom Cemetery in Vanlue. Memorial contirbutions may be made to the Vanlue Community Church and the Dorcas Carey Public Library, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
