Sweet, died at the Huffer Nursing Home Wednesday, at 2:55 p.m. She had been an invalid for the past five years but her death was unexpected. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pickeral, she was born July 23, 1877 near Greenville, where she spent her early life. She made her home in Staunton for the past 25 years. Mrs. Sweet was a life long member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church at Steele's Tavern. Surviving are seven sons, Lusby L. Sweet, Erskine M. Sweet, both of Staunton, Sylvester H. Sweet, Mint Springs, Wilson P. Sweet, Baltimore, Jesse W. Sweet, Silver Spring, Md., Kyle F. Sweet, Washington, D. C., and Kermit R. Sweet; three daughters, Mrs. Mamie Tinsley and Mrs. Eva Guffey, both of Staunton, and Mrs. Mary Wheeler, Waynesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Howard Huff and Mrs. Mittie Humphries, both of Staunton, and Mrs. Harry Almarode, Hopewell; also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Sweet was preceded in death by one son, William R. Sweet, Kingston, N. C. on Jan. 20, 1958. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church at Steeles Tavern with Dr. Richard R. Potter and the Rev. Allen Jones officiating. The body will remain at the Fred Henry Funeral Home until Friday at 9:15 a.m. when it will be placed in the church. Burial wil be in the adjoining cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons, Franklin, Charles, Jerry, Weldon, Robert and Jay W. Sweet. Honorary pallbearers will be William Moses, Hansford Sweet, Lin Dedrick, Gordon Dedrick, John Moneymaker, William L. Moran, Andrew Guffey, Wayne Hale, Bernard Hale, Cecil Almarode, Cecil Cline, Dr. Charles W. Putney, Basic Guffey, Calvin Guffy, Don Beverage, and Ralph Helmick. Relatives and friends are requested to meet Friday at 10 a.m. at the residence of Erskine M. Sweet, 366 Mary Gray Lane. Waynesboro News Virginian-date of paper: March 20, 1958
