Memorials contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Gordon Memorial Hospital. Ruth was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Gordon to Walter and Edith (Mosher) Pike. She grew up in Gordon and attended school through the 11th grade. After her family moved, she graduated from High School in Denver. On April 1, 1936, Ruth was united in marriage to Charles Andrew Spanner in Denver. To this union three daughters, DeLena Ruth, Edith Mae, and Pamela Jo, were born. The couple raised their family in Gordon, where Ruth was active in the community. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and was a Girl Scout Leader. Ruth was a member of the Order of Easter Star Royal Chapter #184 in Gordon. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, knitting, playing cards with family, friends, and especially her granddaughters, and doing the daily cross word puzzles. After moving from Gordon, Ruth became a resident at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.Survivors include her daughters, DeLena Van Briggle and her husband Alvin of Gering, E. Mae Wherry and her husband Art of Humboldt, Pamela Jo Steimle and her husband Bill of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Mike Van Briggle and his wife Deb of Actworth, Ga., Jeannette McGowan and her husband Mike of Swanne, Ga., Judy Wooden and her husband Greg of Scottsbluff, Jim Wherry of Humboldt, Lynne Horalek and her husband Blaine of Lincoln, Steve Wherry and his fiancé Heather Stewart of Lincoln, Lisa Lamb and her husband Trevor of Lawrence, Kan.; Nick Steimle of Aspen, Colo.; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
