KELSONIAN NEWSPAPER, Saturday 25 February 1911, page 3, column 5 PIONEER RESIDENT DEAD Mrs. William Pennington, a resident of Cowlitz County since 1861 and well known to all the older settlers of this valley, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene McCorkle on Wednesday last. Alison Stewart was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania August 15, 1829 and died in Lexington, Washington February 22, 1911 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 7 days. On November 2, 1848 at the age of 19 years she was married to Alex McGowan and to this union were born two sons and one daughter. One son James D. McGowan of Portland, Oregon survives. Their father passed away 24 January 1858. Mrs. McGowan was married to William Pennington April 8, 1862, four children all of whom survive were born to this union. All were present at the bedside when the end came. Besides Mrs. McGowan the children are, Mrs. Jessie S. Hammond and W. H. Pennington of Portland, Mrs. Emma McCorkle of Lexington and Alvin Pennington of Weiser, Idaho. Mrs. Pennington , while a young girl became a member of the Christian church and though out her long life lived quietly and consistently in the faith. Her death though not unexpected is a distinct loss to her family and friends, by all whom she was loved and respected. The funeral services were held at the McCorkle home yesterday and interment was in the Catlin cemetery
