Allan Manderson Ashby was born January 18, 1943, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Harry and Virginia (Redding) Ashby. On August 25, 1962, he married Linda K. Parker in Grinnell. He married Jean L. (Appleget) Mateer on December 5, 1984. She preceded him in death in May 2001. Mr. Ashby was self-employed as a financial advisor and operated Executive Financial Planning. His memberships included the Davenport Eagles Club and Eldridge Lions Club. He volunteered on the Eldridge Fire Department. Survivors include his parents, Harry and Virginia, of Grinnell; three sons, Mark (Jeannie) Ashby, of Eldridge, and Scott (Wendy) Ashby and Loren Ashby, both of Davenport; a stepdaughter, Tammy (Max) Flack, of DeWitt, Iowa; three sons, Mike (Terri) Mateer, of Sigourney, Rick Mateer, of Olathe, Kansas, and Randy (Brenda) Mateer, of Norwalk, Iowa; one sister and two brothers, Miriam (Dale) Schultz, Darrell (Joyce) Ashby, and Gordon (Karen) Ashby, all of Grinnell; and 27 grandchildren. Allan was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda, his second wife, Jean, and a son, Gary. Published in Quad-City Times on July 16, 2008.
