Description	:	Son of Joseph Miller Hash and 1st wife Lucinda Wyatt. Never married. In the 1860 census he is living with his uncle James P. Hash in Tazewell Co. VA. He served in the Civil War. He enlisted July 2, 1861, at Wytheville, VA, in Pvt. Comp C 50th VA Infantry CSA. He was left sick at Camp Gauley, after the Battle of Carnifex Ferry, and was taken prisoner by the Yankees Sep. 10, 1861. His name appears on the prisoners list of Hugh Ewing's 30th Reg. Ohio Volunteers on Sep. 11th. That is the last official record of Allen. He must have died later the same day. It is unlikely that he was buried in Lewisburg. He may well be buried in the Camp Chase Cemetery in Columbus, OH. as that is where the prisoners were taken. The following writings tie in to what happened to him. From the writings of lawyer and cousin Will Daniel: "Allen Hash died single. Killed at Battle of Carnifex Ferry, Nicholas County, (W)VA September 10, 1861." Recollection of John H. Hash (1874 - 1968): "Allen and my father (Joseph William Hash) fought at Carnifex Ferry, VA (now WV). It was there that Allen jumped upon some breastworks and stood there firing and encouraging the men to fight, when he was shot dead. Joseph W. saw this happen." Recollection of Joseph J. Hash (1872 - 1947): "The following story was told to me by my father (Joseph W. Hash), that one of his brothers was fighting Union soldiers over a high breastwork. He got mad and cussed the Union then jumped upon the top of the works and shot at Union soldiers until he was shot down himself."
