The Reverend B. J. Haskamp officiated at the exchange of the marriage vows and was celebrant of the nuptial high mass which followed. The bride wore a gown of white slipper satin. The fitted bodice was fashioned with a net embroidery yoke with a rounding neckline. The long fitted sleeves were tapered over the wrists. Satin covered buttons trimmed the sleeves and closed the back of the bodice. The full folds of the skirt fell into an aisle wide train. Her double tiered finger tip veil was attached to a crown of orange blossoms. She wore a double strand of pearls, a gift of the groom. She carried a bouquet of white mums and red roses. Miss Eileen Menke, cousin of the groom was bridesmaid. She wore a gown of repo taffeta with a fitted bodice, fashioned with a net yoke and a rounded neckline. She carried a bouquet of bronze asters and roses. She wore a double trend of pearls, a gift of the bride. The groom was attended by Irvin Kathman, brother of the bride. They both won brown suits with white carnation boutonnieres. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the rectory. A two course dinner was served to about 65 guests at the home of the bride's parents. In the evening a dance was held in the St. Stephens Hall. The bride is a graduate of Lawrence high school with the class of '46. The groom is engaged in farming. The young couple will make their home on a farm northeast of Mt Clare. ========================== The Nuckolls County Locomotive-Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, December 24, 2015; pg. 23 Alma C. Schroer was born on February 12, 1928 to Frank J. and Bertha (Bauer) Kathman at Lawrence, Nebraska. She departed this life Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Harvard Rest Haven, in Harvard, Nebraska at the age of 87. Alma graduated from Lawrence High School in 1946. Alma married Hubert P. Schroer on October 11, 1949 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska. She had been a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church and Altar Society and was a member of Sacred Hearth Catholic Church and Altar Society. She had been a member of the quilting club, card club and square dancer's club. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma is survived by Daughter Carol & husband Bill Alexander, Harvard; Sons Lyle & wife Donna Schroer and Burt & wife Judy Schroer, Lawrence; Son-In-Law Dean Haba, Glenvil; Sisters Bernice Bolte and Eileen & husband LeRoy Buschkoetter, Lawrence; Sister-In-Laws Bertha Kathman, Lawrence, Rosalia & husband Leonard Buschkoetter, Blue Hill; Brother-In-Law Paul & wife Wanda Faimon, Lawrence; 16 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Daughter Connie Haba; Granddaughter Jenna Marie Schroer; Sister Joan Faimon and Brother Irvin Kathman. Funeral services were Monday, December 21, 2015 at the St. Stephen Catholic church (sic) south of Lawrence with Father Thomas Bush officiating at the service. Assisting at the services were Loren Ostdiek as Acolyte and Don Kathman as Lector. Music was provided by Susan Janda as organist and Peggy Faimon and Carolyn Kohmetscher as Song Leaders. Mass Servers were Riley Kucera and Lane Kathman. Gift Bearers were Julie Brubaker, Angie Chamberlain, Rene Guy, Melissa Johnson, Cassy Stock and Kim Gipson. Pallbearers were Joe Haba, Ryan Schroer, Randy Haba, Michael Schroer, Paul Alexander, Dan Schroer, Philip Schroer, Steven Schroer and Kevin Schroer. Interment was in the St. Stephen parish cemetery. A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements.
