In 1869 the family decided on emigrating westward, leaving Toledo, OH, May 1 in covered wagons. They stopped first at Clinton, IA, to visit Mr. Dailey's two brothers. Finally on Aug. 5, they stopped at Mr. Dailey's brother, Lemual, seven miles west of the little inland town of Sioux Rapids, IA, and after a few weeks moved into a large log house -- an abandoned government fort on the little Sioux river, on a quarter section of railroad land. Here they lived for seven years. Unable to get a title for the land, however, and in May, 1876, her father filed on a homestead in Dakota Territory. Birth: Nov. 16, 1856 Spencerville Ontario, Canada Death: Feb. 10, 1950 South Dakota, USA [Edit Dates] Ezra was born to Joseph and Eleanor (Wilson) Elcock. Ezra married Alma Irene Dailey on Jul. 2, 1889. 3 children were born to this union; William J., Claude J. and Edward. Ezra attained the age of 93 years, 9 months and 6 days. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Mr. Elcock's father, Joseph, was a native of Ireland and his mother, Eleanor, was born in Vermont. In 1864 the family came to Minnesota. His father died Apr. 4, 1894 and his mother Oct. 10, 1865. Mr. Elcock in 1880 came to Dakota Territory with his cousin, Robert Elcock, the trip overland being made in a lumber-wagon. For eight years Mr. Elcock remained with his cousin, experiencing the many hardships witnessed by the early settlers. Following their marriage on Jul. 2, 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Elcock moved on a farm five miles south of Lennox in Lincoln County, purchasing this land from Robert Elcock in 1912, and residing ther until Dec. 1924, when they retired, moving into Lennox.
