Description	:	Alma Lawson Smith, 86, formerly of 207 North Mountain Street, died July 4, 1996, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Russell S. Smith and the daughter of the late Hervy Hiram and Alphia Queen Lawson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Union, the WMU Fidelis Sunday School class and was active in church work as long as her health permitted. Read More	Alma Lawson Smith, 86, formerly of 207 North Mountain Street, died July 4, 1996, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Russell S. Smith and the daughter of the late Hervy Hiram and Alphia Queen Lawson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Union, the WMU Fidelis Sunday School class and was active in church work as long as her health permitted. She did volunteer work as a driver for Meals on Wheels and was a retired jewelry store owner. Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Everette J. Smith of Durham, N.C., Alfred E. and Roderick W. Smith of Union; three sisters, Florence Caldwell of Buffalo, Pearl Boling of Chester and Doris Campbell of Los Angeles; one brother, Ralph H. Lawson of Buffalo; ten grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of a son, Alfred E. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Union, conducted by the Rev. Jim Hudson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, East Main Street, or Meals on Wheels, in care of Monte Lancaster, Arthur State Bank, Union, 29379. S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
