There she was baptized and after due instruction was confirmed in the Lutheran church. Along with her religious instruction she also received her secular instruction in the public school of her native village. Read More	Mrs. Alma Meisgeier Mrs. Alma Nathalie Nus Meisgeier was born November 2, 1852, at Remptendorf, Germany. There she was baptized and after due instruction was confirmed in the Lutheran church. Along with her religious instruction she also received her secular instruction in the public school of her native village. In 1872 she came to America with her mother and two brothers, Hugo and Ernst, and settled at Taylorsville, Iowa. One year later, on September 30, 1873, she was united in marriage to Mr. Herman Meisgeier. The young couple bought a farm three and one-half miles northeast of Arlington, which has remained their home until their respective deaths. God blessed this happy union with eight children, namely, Mrs. Ida Eckheart, Mrs. Bertha Eckheart, Mrs. Anna Streicher, Mrs. Edna Putnam, Mrs. Laura Andreae, all of Arlington, Mrs. Gretchen Knapp of Topeka, Kansas, Earnest, who died at the age of seven months, and Clara, who died on June 1, 1927. Mrs. Meisgeier was preceded in death by her husband, who died on March 24, 1917. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Meisgeier continued to live on the old homestead. Since 1920 she rented the farm to her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Andreae, with whom she has made her home from that time until her death. Mrs. Meisgeier was ever a faithful member of the Lutheran church. In their early married life Mr. and Mrs. Meisgeier with their children would drive a distance of nine miles with team and buggy to services in the St. Sebald church. Later when Pastor Fuehr of St. Sebald conducted divine services in a schoolhouse and then in a rented church they attended there. Then they helped to build the present Lutheran church in Arlington aand remained some of its most faithful members. Mrs. Meisgeier was one of those firm Christian characters which are a blessing to the community in which they live. She was a kind, Christian mother, who made it her life's work to care well for her family and to bring her children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. As a neighbor she always proved to be a true friend in need. Twelve years ago Mrs. Meisgeier suffered a paralytic stroke, which resulted in the loss of sight in her left eye. About four years later it became necessary to have the eye removed by operation. Four years ago she suffered another stroke, much more severe than the first, which rendered her quite helpless. She endured her affliction patiently and waited with longing for the time when her Heavenly Father would graciously relieve her and take her to her eternal home. On February 15 of this year she suffered still another stroke which confined her to her bed and at last led to her death. She passed to her eternal home on March 13, 1935, at the age of 82 years, four months, and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her death her six daughters, twenty-four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. In her memory we add the following poem to her life's history: One less at home! The charmed circle broken; a dear face Missed day by day from its accustomed place; But, cleansed and saved and perfected by grace; One more in heaven! One more at home! This is not home, where cramped in earthly mold Our sight of Christ is dim, our love is cold; But there where face to face we shall behold Is home and heaven! One less on earth! Its pain and sorrow, and its toil to share One less the pilgrim's daily cross to bear One more the crown of ransomed souls to wear At home in heaven! One more in heaven! Another thought to brighten cloudy days; Another theme for thankfulness and praise; Another link on high our souls to raise In home and heaven! One more at home! That home where separation cannot be, That home whence none is missed eternally! Lord Jesus, grant us all a place with Thee, At home in heaven! Funeral services in charge of H. C. Schiffler were held in St. John's Lutheran church at Arlington, Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The pall bearers were the six grandsons, Eldo, Edwin, Dorn and Amos Eckheart, Ralph Streicher and Dale Putnam. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the family lot at Taylorville cemetery beside her husband and daughter Clara. Found in The Arlington News dated March 21, 1935, pages 1 and 8.
