Aloysius Brockman, son of John and Mary (Sallen) Brockman, was born near Lawrence December 16, 1888, and died at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson March 21 at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 5 days. He attended St. Stephen's school and lived in that community until about 1916 when he started working with Henry Schroer in the garage business. He was married to Kathryn Brockman November 23, 1917, at St. Stephen's with Father Aloys Hahn officiating. In 1921 they moved to Jet, Oklahoma. They returned to Lawrence in the spring of 1933, locating in a farm home northeast of Lawrence where the wife and mother died in November, 1933. Mr. Brockman and six small children moved to a home in St. Stephen's where they lived for several years before moving to Lawrence in 1972. Failing health forced him to make his home in the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson. He was a life time member of the Catholic church and devoted to its teaching. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His brother Knights formed an honor guard at the funeral services. His life was not an easy life, following the death of his wife he had to be both father and mother to six young children. He had little worldly goods, but he needed little to live a happy contented life. He had two hobbies, one was music. As a young man he was organist for the St. Stephen's Church choir, and even as a patient in the nursing home, he entertained himself and the other senior citizens by playing the organ and singing. His other hobby was his large vegetable and fruit garden which he cared for until failing health forced him to quit. He is survived by three sons, Francis of St. Petersburg, Florida, Gibert of Riversdale, Maryland and Richard of Sacramento, California; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Fritchie and Mrs. Amelia Samms of Sacramento, California; eighteen grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lena Grothaus, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Bernice, who died in 1919 as an infant; a son, Bernard, who died in infancy in 1925; a son, Lawrence, died in 1931 at the age of 23; three brothers, William, Albert and Leo; and a sister. Relatives attending the funeral included Francis Brockman of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Brockman, Angelina and Mark of Riversdale, Maryland, Richard Brockman and Mrs. Mary Fritchie of Sacramento, California, David Brockman of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Rita Heilbrun of Lexington, Kentucky, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Bruckner of Platte Center, Mr. and Mrs. George Venhaus of Grand Island, Bob Brockman of Bellevue, Mrs. Al Balweg of Omaha, Larry Zimmerman of Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wombacher of Shelby and Lee and Norman Brockman of Hastings.
