June 30, 1864, he was united in marriage to Ella Cushman. To them were born three children, Mrs. E.J. Everley, of Duncan, Okla.; W.F. Keener, of Sharon, Kans.; and L.C. Keener of Glasco, Kans., all of whom, with the widowed mother, survive to mourn the loss of a father and companion. Mr. and Mrs. Keener removed from Green Co., Pa. to Kansas in 1884, bought a farm in '85, where they resided until their removal to the city of Glasco in the fall of 1908. Mr. Keener had been in poor health for sometime, and with failing sight, he had found it necessary to retire from the active duties of life. Against the encroachment of disease with attendant pain, he made a long fight, but "in that war there is no discharge," and quietly on Nov. 23, 1909, he passed out to the Great White City of Silence, to the Land of the Majority. During his protracted illness and final collapse, his wife, companion of his years, stood noble by him, sparing no effort that could add to his comfort, and with her children's help endeavored to grant his every wish. The services were held in the M.E. church, Nov. 25, in charge of Director A.G. Sutcliff, the Rev. Mrs. Hill of Cawker City officiating, assisted by the Rev. Harding, of Glasco. The friends were very considerate during his sickness and death, and their kindly sympathy found expression in the flowers in evidence at the church and also at the grave, which was tastily trimmed in white and green. He was laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery, and the many friends join with the family in mourning their loss.
