Alphia (Kruger) Rachut-Walk was born July 29, 1920 in rural Grafton, Iowa to Alfred and Lydia (Kirchgatter) Kruger. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Minn., where she was married to Roy Rachut Feb. 18, 1940. ANSGAR, Iowa -- Alphia (Kruger) Rachut-Walk, age 87, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at Three Links Care Center, Northfield, Minn. Alphia (Kruger) Rachut-Walk was born July 29, 1920 in rural Grafton, Iowa to Alfred and Lydia (Kirchgatter) Kruger. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Minn., where she was married to Roy Rachut Feb. 18, 1940. They made their home and their living on a farm four miles east of Grafton. Roy and Alphia were active members of St. John's Lutheran Church. Alphia loved to be outdoors and took an active part in farming the land. After Roy's death in 1971, Alphia was married to Harley Walk in November 1973. They were members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. They lived near Grafton where Harley raised turkeys. Alphia moved to Worth Living Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa and then to the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in August, 2005. In April 2007 she moved to Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minn. Alphia enjoyed attending church and church activities, gardening, dancing, playing bridge, working jigsaw puzzles, doing good works for the elderly in the community, and giving her grandchildren some great "farming experiences." Alphia is survived by three daughters: Mary (Alan) Greenman, Austin, Minn.; Darlene (Verle) Zuehl, Northbridge, Ma.; and Betty (Stan) Brumm,Eden Prairie, Minn.; step-daughter: Anne (Harry) Hammond, Boulder, Colo.; step-son: Mark (Tracy) Walk, Osage, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson. Alphia was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Evelyn Steinberg; brothers Elery Kruger and Wilfred Kruger, her daughter Shirley (Ken)Fossey, her first husband, Roy Rachut, and her second husband, Harley Walk. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2007 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton with Rev. Wayne Ellingson and Associate in Ministry Irmgard Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Rock Township, Osage, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St. St. Ansgar, Iowa.
