C. Horner, youngest child of Arch H. and Rosetta Horner, was born in Warren county, Iowa, July 17, 1902, and departed this life at her home in Chariton on May 21, 1962, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 4 days. Her mother passed away when she was 6 months old. From then on she made her home with her aunt and uncle, Luella and Jim Strain. Her life was spent in Warren county until her marriage to Moses L. Curtis in 1923. Their home was established on a farm near Norwood. To this union two sons were born, Eldon D. and Paul W. Curtis. In 1937 they purchased the store in Norwood. In 1940 her husband passed away. In 1943, she and the boys moved to Chariton where she was employed in factory work until 1961. She made her home in Chariton until the time of her passing. She was a member of the Methodist church in Lacona. Her children, grandchildren and her flowers were her greatest interest in life. Those left to mourn her passing are her two sons, two daughters-in-law, Margaret and Delores, five grandchildren, Patty, Pammy, Peggy, Kathie and Patricia. Two brothers, L. Z. Horner, Denton, Md., Ross Strain, St. Charles, Ia. Two sisters, Ila Horner and May Cooey, of Martins Ferry, Oh. A sister-in-law, Mary Horner, of Denton, Md., a brother-in-law, Alva Horner of Martins Ferry, Oh., nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, her father and mother, her devoted aunt and uncle, Luella and Jim Strain. Alta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. Eldon McCannon officiated. Interment was in Fletcher cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M.
