Son of Elmer Curtis and Dora Frances Overton OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, November 28, 1940 MOSES LAFAYETTE CURTIS Moses Lafayette Curtis, son of Elmer and Dora Curtis, was born Nov. 19, 1896, and departed this life at his home in Norwood on Nov. 22, 1940, at the age of 44 years and three days. He had been ill for about six months. In his early youth he was converted and ever remained true to the faith. He was married to Alta Horner, of Lacona, on Dec. 23, 1923. To this union two sons were born, Eldon Dwight and Paul Wendell, who with their mother are left to mourn his death. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Iva McNeer, of Norwood and Mrs. Dorothy Reeves, of Corydon, and three brothers, Malvern Curtis, of Liberty Center and Dwight and Dwaine Curtis, of Norwood; three nieces and two nephews and many other relatives and friends. During his extended illness he was always a patient sufferer, ever thoughtful of others, never complaining of himself. Everything that could be done was done to relieve his sufferings and restore him to health but to no avail and he slipped quietly away. Moses Curtis was born near Norwood and spent his entire lifetime in that community. He always held the respect of everyone who knew him, because of his clean habits, honest dealings and sincere friendship. His death is a distinct loss to the community. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. G. E. McCannon, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Norwood U. B. church. Interment was in the Fletcher cemetery. Pallbearers were Glen Penick, Clarence Crooks, Virl Nine, Bill Snider, Gerald Primm and Winfield Fogle. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
