Read More	Alta Irene Williams Van Gundy ALTA VAN GUNDY Alta Irene (Williams) Van Gundy, a five year Colorado Springs resident, passed away July 18, 2003 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Alta was born to Opal and Waite Williams Oct. 18, 1927 in Agate, CO. The Williams family moved to Fruita, CO, when Alta was five years old. She married Robert D. Van Gundy May 15, 1948 in Grand Junction. They lived in Grand Junction until January 1998 when they moved to Colorado Springs. She graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1946 and attended Colorado State College of Agriculture for two years. Alta earned a BA from the University of Northern Colorado in 1955 and an MA from Western State College in 1969. She was an elementary teacher for 26 years. in Grand Junction. Alta received the honor of being named the 1982 Colorado Reading Teacher of the Year. She was a member of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grand Junction and the Highland Park Baptist Church of Colorado Springs. Her mother, father and two sisters precede her in death. She is survived by a sister, Nina Roberts of Colusa, CA, and a brother, Harvey Williams of Westminster, CO, her husband, Robert D. Van Gundy, two daughters, Daphne Turner of Colorado Springs and Linda Boivin of Albuquerque, NM, a son Robert E. Van Gundy of Castle Rock, CO, five grand children and one great grandchild. Alta was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, gardening, traveling, crafts and games. Alta will be remembered for her smile, generosity, creativity, patience, perseverance and love for everyone. Visitation will be at 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 22 at Highland Park Baptist Church, 2315 N, Circle Dr. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, at Highland Park Baptist Church. Another service will be Saturday, July 26 in Grand Junction. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens in Grand Junction.
