Description	:	Alta Mary Avery Roper was born to Sidney and Caroline Robbins Avery on October 15, 1900, in Fillmore County, Neb. She died January 13, 1981 at Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 80 years. A lifetime resident of Fillmore county, she moved at the age of nine with her family, into Fairmont from a farm northwest of town and was a 1920 graduate of Fairmont high school. Read More	Alta Mary Avery Roper was born to Sidney and Caroline Robbins Avery on October 15, 1900, in Fillmore County, Neb. She died January 13, 1981 at Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 80 years. A lifetime resident of Fillmore county, she moved at the age of nine with her family, into Fairmont from a farm northwest of town and was a 1920 graduate of Fairmont high school. She was married to Curtis Roper on June 22, 1927, and resided on a farm northwest of town where they raised their three sons. After her husband's death in January of 1961, she moved to Fairmont where she resided until she moved to Fairview Manor in 1977. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Delvin and Carolyn of Omaha, Duaine and Geraldine, Marvin and Delores of Fairmont, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Alta became a member of the Grace Methodist church at the age of 13 and was an active member until her death. She was also an active member in West Blue Aid Society, North Side Club and the Golden Age Circle. She will long be remembered for her eagerness for adventure, whether it be in travel, cooking or learning a new game. Her love for gardening made it a treat to tour her backyard. Her many scrapbooks reveal her sense of humor and love for poetry and nature's beauty. Her motto was Reinhold Niebuhr's poem: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference." Services were conducted January 15, 1981, at the Fairmont Community church with Rev. Jay Vetter officiating. Nancy Jo Galusha was the organist with the congregation singing "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" and "For All the Saints." Pallbearers were Jerry Galusha, Howard Lefler, Buster Marget, Larry Hilty Jr., Duane Lott and Dale Moul. Interment was in the Fairmont Pubic cemetery.
