Read More	Mrs. Carrie Avery, a resident of the Fairmont community more than 90 years, passed away at the Fairmont Nursing Home Thursday, December 3, 1964, aged 96 years and 16 days. Caroline E. Robbins, daughter of Fredrick and Mary Robbins, was born near Carleton, Michigan, November 17, 1868. At the early age of five, she moved with her parents to Fairmont, Neb. This was 1873, the year of the grasshopper scourge. As a young woman, she was a great companion of her mother, working and planning many things together. She attended school at District No. 11 south and west of Fairmont. In June, 1893, she was united in marriage to Sidney W. Avery, and together they made their home on a farm near Fairmont. To this union tow children, Leonard Earl, who died in infancy and Alta Mary, now Mrs. Curtis Roper. Early in her married life she united with Grace Methodist church in Fairmont. She had been a member of this church for 69 years. She was a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and a charter member of the West Blue aid and North Side club. She has been a resident of Fairmont since 1909, when due to her husband's failing health, they left the farm. Though she was devoted first of all to her home and to the welfare of those who share it with her, she had time for a number of outside activities and was ever willing to lend a hand in any project in which she could be of assistance. Both she and her husband were frequent travelers to their birth places to visit old friends and relatives, as well as to many scenic places throughout the United States. Their travels gave them a new outlook on life after a number of years of hard work. She was preceded in death by her husband in November, 1935. She is survived by her daughter, Alta, a brother, O.A. Robbins of Fairmont; three grandsons, Rev. Delvin Roper of Lincoln, Duaine Roper of Englewood, Col., and Marvin Roper of Fairmont and six great-grandchildren. *** Age is a quality of mind If we have left our dreams behind If hope grows cold Then we are old. Rev. Leonard Hartwig officiating. Oliver Moul sang "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Mrs. A. P. Stewart was accompanist. Pallbearers were Homer Goodrich, Harry Kelch, Floyd Lott, Elmer Priefert, Frank Ritchey and Ralph Schoch. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 10th, 1964 page 4.
