Description	:	Al was born Altjo Kristjaans. 1892 - came to the Iowa from the Netherlands with his family. "One of the busiest farmers in this community is Al Christans who farms 127 acres three miles southwest of town. He does practically all of his work alone, and a look at his crops will convince anyone that he does a good job of it. This year he is growing 24 acres of sugar beets in addition to the other farm crops. While this crop has reduced his corn acreage it requires extra work. "One of the busiest farmers in this community is Al Christans who farms 127 acres three miles southwest of town. He does practically all of his work alone, and a look at his crops will convince anyone that he does a good job of it. This year he is growing 24 acres of sugar beets in addition to the other farm crops. While this crop has reduced his corn acreage it requires extra work. Al has 25 acres of corn, 50 acres of oats, milks 6 cows, raises 84 spring pigs and 700 chicks. Up until harvest time he had less than a half day of hired help. Now, during threshing, he runs the steam engine for his threshing run. This means he has to get up mightly early in the morning to fire up the engine and have everything in readiness when the other farmers arrive on the scene.
