The funeral service was Friday, Nov. 23, at Newton Bible Church with the Revs. Don Myer and Ted Veer officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Newton. Alva, the son of Tobias and Mary (Unruh) Decker, was born Feb. 27, 1911 in Roxbury, Kan. where he grew up. He married Frances Ratzlaff on Dec. 20, 1932. He moved to Newton in 1947 and was a farmer. He was also employed by the Newton School District as a maintenance worker for many years and was a crossing guard at Cooper and Sunset Elementary Schools. He was a charter member of the Newton Bible Church for 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Frances Decker, Hesston; sons Glennon of Sun City West, Ariz. and Bryan of Arvada, Colo.; daughter, Lola Hostetler of Chandler, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. His parents, son Gymler, five brothers, five sisters and two granddaughters preceded him in death.
