Description	:	Alva Stevens, 74, of 260 S. Davis, died Sunday at 4:12 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital. He had been an employe of John Deere Ottumwa Works for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1964. He was born Dec. 1, 1898, at Mystic, to Thomas and Louise Christy Stevens. He had lived in Ottumwa since 1942. Read More	Alva Stevens, 74, of 260 S. Davis, died Sunday at 4:12 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital. He had been an employe of John Deere Ottumwa Works for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1964. He was born Dec. 1, 1898, at Mystic, to Thomas and Louise Christy Stevens. He had lived in Ottumwa since 1942. He as a member of Empire Lodge 269 and was a past monarch of the Haved Grotto, a member of the Davenport Consistory, the KAABA Shrine of Davenport, the Ottumwa Shrine Club, the White Shrine and the Low Twelve Club, the Eagles Club and Local 74 AFL-CIO. He married Eva Pyle Feb. 8, 1919, in Ottumwa. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Russell of Newton and Dorothy Shepley of Ottumwa; six grandchildren and six great-granchildren; four brothers, Fred, Elmer, Clarence and Bert Stevens of Newton; and one sister, Florence Hansen of Newton. He was preceded in death by two daughters, one son and five brothers. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Brooks Cemetery, west of Ottumwa. The Rev. Francis Russell of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Newton, and a son-in-law, will officiate. Masonic services will be held at the grave. The Johnson Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
