Description	:	BIG TIMBER~ Alva "Al" Deegan, a longtime Big Timber resident, worked more than 30 years for Davis-Manley Grocery, then until 1984 for Big T Super IGA. For the past year he carried mail on the Gibson route north of Big Timber. A 35-year member of Big Timber Volunteer Fire Department, he was commander of Sweet Grass American Legion Post and a member of Overland Golf Course. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed sports. Mr. Deegan, 58, died Thursday of an apparent heart attack while on his mail route. He was born in Big Timber, on son of Emmett and Lola Deegan, graduated from Sweet Grass County High School and served in the Navy during World War II. On Sept. 26, 1947, he married Margaret Viets in Big Timber. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Kathy) McDonald of Bozeman and Mrs. Chuck (Kristy) Schmeichel of Jamestown, N.D.; three brothers, Bud of Big Timber, Bob of Carson City, Nev. and Ed of McLeod; four sisters, Mary Etzold of Big Timber, Kitty Tronrud of Melville, Phyllis Strickland of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and Pat Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two granddaughters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Big Timber Lutheran Church with burial in Mountain View Cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home is in charge. DEEGAN~VIETS WEDDING RITES HELD FRIDAY Margaret A. Viets, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Viets of Gibson, and Alva V. Deegan, son of Mrs. Sylvester Lavold, were married Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Big Timber Lutheran church, Rev. E.E. Tollefson officiating at the double-ring candle light service. The church was decorated with pink and white gladioli. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a winter rose suit with black accessories and a corsage of lily white roses and carried a white Bible. Alice Duffey, bridesmaid, wore a light blue suit with black accessories and had a corsage of pink roses. Joe Monroe was best man. Ushers were Paul Westervelt and Fredrick H. McCauley. The bride's mother was attired in a black dress with matching accessories and the groom's mother chose a dark blue suit with matching accessories. Both wore corsages of gardenias. Mrs. Bill Esp sang two selections, "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer," accompanied by Mrs. E.E. Tollefson at the organ. A reception was held at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Monroe, brother-in-law and sister of the bride, following the ceremony. Leona Viets and Phyllis Deegan presided at the tea table. The beautiful two-tiered wedding cake was trimmed with pink roses and topped with miniature bride and broom. Both the bride and groom are 1945 graduates of Sweet Grass county high school, and the former has been employed at the Cole Drug since her graduation. The groom served 18 months in the Navy, 15 months overseas. For the past six months he has been employed by the Montana highway commission, but now is at the Davis grocery. They will make their home in Big Timber. BIRTHS~ Born to Mr. and Mrs. Emmett J. Deegan of this city, Monday, August 8, an eleven pound boy.
