Description	:	Alvida John French was born January 24, 1916 in Flaxville to Amada and Corrine (Goulet) French, the seventh of thirteen children. He died at his home in Scobey on February 14, 2013 at the age of 97. Services are Friday, February 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Scobey with Fr. Pat Zabrocki officiating. He graduated from... Read More	Alvida John French was born January 24, 1916 in Flaxville to Amada and Corrine (Goulet) French, the seventh of thirteen children. He died at his home in Scobey on February 14, 2013 at the age of 97. Services are Friday, February 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Scobey with Fr. Pat Zabrocki officiating. There will be a viewing held at the church Thursday, February 21 from 10 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Al was very active in sports, a basketball allstar in high school, fast in track, and the men’s baseball team after high school. He graduated from Flaxville High in 1935. Alvida married Gertrude Nordgren on October 24, 1939 in Flaxville. Their first home was an “apartment” at the Nordgren town residence in Scobey which they bought three years later, and lived until his death. Gertrude passed away April of 2007. Over the years, Alvida farmed a half-section of land near Madoc and worked for Vic Hillstrom for a number of years. He then served as a shop mechanic for the Rasmus Nelson firm during the months he was not farming from 1955 thru 1981 when he retired. From then on he took over the vacuuming and gardening. He put a large garden in every summer including 2012 - the rototilling, planting, and harvesting. His canned spaghetti sauce and apple sauce were the best. When Al decided not to drive any more at age 95, he bought an electric trike to get his mail and groceries, weather permitting. Al started on the Scobey volunteer fire department in 1948 and continued for over 25 years. He loved to bowl, tinkered in the garage to keep his yard equipment going, was hard working, dedicated to his family, and had a deep abiding faith. The couple had twelve children - Alden of Billings; Clive (Diane) of Clermont, Florida; Blaine (Patti) of Peerless; Parris (Cheryl) of Scobey; Candace (Tom) Southland of Scobey; Mary (Jim) Donahue of Scottsburg, Indiana; Rozlynn (Burl) Bowler of Scobey; John (passed away in 1971); Kevin of Billings; Melissa Tade of Seattle, Washington; Willa (Jerry) Hendrickson of Plentywood; and Ann French of Sidney. There were 35 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and 2 great greats. The above decendants total 107! He was preceded in death by his parents, son John, grandson Michael French (who passed away the same day as Al); granddaughters Melanie Southland and Stephaine French; five brothers, Dona, Omer, Alfred “Chick”, Wilfred “Jumbo”, Lloyd, and four sisters, Lydia LeMieux, Alice Sprague, De Above information provided by Pam Norris on 11/28/2017
