Alvin was born on June 5, 1920, in Artesian rural Waverly, the son of Carl and Alma (Schaefer) Meier and was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church Artesian on June 27, 1920. Read More	Alvin Carl Meier, age 91, of Waverly, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly. Alvin was born on June 5, 1920, in Artesian rural Waverly, the son of Carl and Alma (Schaefer) Meier and was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church Artesian on June 27, 1920. He was raised in Artesian where he was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 25th, 1934 and attended Washington Country School and later St. Paul Artesian School to the 8th grade. Later in life Alvin would earn his General Education Degree. After finishing the eighth grade he worked for his father at the Artesian Creamery. Alvin entered the United States Army on August 25, 1942, where he served in Europe during WWII earning a silver and bronze star. Alvin was discharged on October 22, 1945. On November 4, 1945, Alvin was united in marriage to Lucinda Traetow at St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly. Alvin was Butter Maker for 3½ years at the Frederika Creamery. The couple then spent their lives farming two miles East of Bremer. While farming, Alvin also worked at Armour Agriculture Chemical Company in Waterloo, and at Kay Enterprises in Janesville. Alvin retired in 1973 and the couple moved to their present home in Waverly in 1998. Alvin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Artesian and VFW Post 2208 in Waverly. His enjoyments included fishing, playing cards, shuffleboard, and most of all spending time with his family. Alvin's memory is honored by his wife of 66 years, Lucinda Meier, of Waverly; his four children, Charles (LeAnn) Meier of Shell Rock, Larry (Cheryl) Meier of Mission, Texas, Garry (friend Chris) Meier of Oran, and Sandra (Gary) Quade of Charles City; fourteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Luella Harms of Tripoli and Mildred Dankenbring of Cedar Falls; a brother, Harold (Delores) Meier of Readlyn; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Meier of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eldo and Eugene Meier; two sisters, Leota Meier and Helen Tietje; four brothers-in-law, Harold H. Meier, August Harms, Erwin Tietje, and Bud Dankenbring; and a daughter-in-law, Diane Meier. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church Artesian with Pastor Keith Brusteun officiating. Interment will follow at St Paul Lutheran Church Artesian Cemetery.
