Mr. Johnson was a member of Carpenters Union, Local No. 4, Northwest Davenport Turner society and the Blue Grass Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are the wife; one daughter, Mrs. Derryl Baustian of Blue Grass, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson of Davenport. Daily Times - Monday - June 4, 1956 Scott County and Civil Aeronautic Commission authorities today continued their investigation of a private plane crash which killed one person and injured three on a farm south of Blue Grass, Sunday. Dead is Alvin Frederick "Jack" Johnson, 47, Blue Grass, a passenger. Injured was Vernon Helble, 40, the pilot and Kenneth "Jerry" Helble, 11, and Floyd Fix, 42, all of Blue Grass. The boy escaped injury, Helble and Fix were reported in good condition in St. Luke's hospital. Helble suffered possible broken ribs and bruises. Fix sustained head and body bruises. Kenneth Helble, who was riding in the right front seat of the new Piper Tri-Pacer airplane told authorities the plane's engine sputtered on take-off shortly before the crash. Johnson, 47, Blue Grass, was killed and two friends were injured Sunday afternoon when a light plane crashed on takeoff on the Vernon Helble farm about 12 miles southeast of here. Helble, 40, was the pilot of the plane. He and Floyd Fix, 42, also of Blue Grass, were hospitalized here. Helble's son, Jerry, 11, escaped with only a scratch. Helble and his party had just taken off from a landing strip on the farm when the plane's motor died. Mrs. Helble, who had just returned from a ride in the plane, was watching from the runway when the plane crashed. Helble, a farmer and sportsman. keeps several planes in a hangar on his farm.
