Read More	COMMUNITY SHOCKED BY NEWS OF DEATH OF AL ROTH When Silver Creek citizens learned Wednesday morning that Al Roth had died at his home Tuesday night they were considerably shocked as Al had been up and around the previous day, having served as a member of the village election board. He left the polling place about 9:30 Tuesday evening, after the counting had been completed and went to his home, and about ten o'clock he passed away from a heart attack while sitting in his favorite rocking chair. He had been ill at times during the past year, but seemed quite spry and cheerful Tuesday. He was past 79 years of age. Alvin Freeman Roth was born on September 14, 1864 at Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Roth. In 1868 he came to Polk county with his parents, and has lived in this vicinity since that time. In his younger days he was a telegraph operator for the Union Pacific, and worked for several years near Omaha, and also on the west coast. For many years he conducted a meat market in Silver Creek, served as a member of the village board, and was marshal and constable for a number of years. He also served four years as deputy sheriff of Merrick county while Jake Mohr was sheriff. On October 1, 1890 he married Miss Maud Buchanan of Good Hope, Ill., who died in July, 1927. To this union one child was born, Ruth Roth Stenger, who passed away in December, 1926. Generous to a fault, Al made a host of friends, and kept most of his charitable acts to himself. Many times he has been known to deliver a generous roast along with a basket of groceries to a poor family in distress. On Sept. 29, 1940, he married Mrs. Ever Lieth of Silver Creek, who survives, as do also four step children. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Bond of Silver Creek and Mrs. Stella Alpaugh of Van Nuys, Calif. and one brother, A.K. Roth of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Fleming Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the Roth home at five o'clock Thursday afternoon and remain there until Friday afternoon. Rev. Hamilton of Fairview will conduct the funeral service, and burial will be at the Silver Creek cemetery. Silver Creek Sand, April 7, 1944
