Morris Alvin Grant Morris, one of the most widely known citizens of Graham county, died at his home in Hill City, Kansas, on January 11th, 1921. Morris Alvin Grant Morris, one of the most widely known citizens of Graham county, died at his home in Hill City, Kansas, on January 11th, 1921. He came from Iowa to this county in 1886, a boy of sixteen years, and passed the remainder of his life here. He was active in local affairs and always stood for progress and the betterment of business and social conditions. He was connected with many of the business enterprises of the county and held always the matter of personal profit as secondary to the welfare of the community. He was a Mason and a Woodman and a member of the city council at the time of his demise. Born in Bethlehem, Iowa in 1870, attended schools in that state and was prominent teacher in the schools of this county. In 1895 he was married to Hesba E. Smith, who survive him. Three sons were the fruits of this union, Alvin Everett, Benjamin Smith and David Gordon, all residents of Hill City at this time. The funeral services were held under the auspices of Millbrook Lodge No. 281, A. F. & A. M., assisted by Dr. W. J. Meredith at the Federated Church on last Friday, the 14th and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at this place, a city of the dead which the deceased helped to locate and establish many years ago. Alvin Grant Morris has passed from us, his friends shall see him here no more forever, but the benefit of his example is still with us and will continue for he obeyed the command of the Lord of Hosts "execute true judgement, show mercy and compassion, and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger nor the poor."
