Mr. Steffes, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. The Rev. Dale Reiff will celebrate the Mass. Lector will be Robb Steffes. Eucharistic ministers will be Vickie Kesling, Jim Kesling and Donna Grossman. Mass servers will be Ashley Steffes and Holly Steffes. Gift bearers will be Trisha Steffes, Tina Spain, Brenda Ocken and Rhonda Forsythe. Casket bearers will be Bob Steffes, Nick Steffes, Scott Steffes, Todd Rohe, Bruce Ocken and Nate Steffes. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton. Visitation will be held Friday at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a parish scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. A son of Henry and Catherine (Rupiper) Steffes, he was born April 11, 1918, near Templeton and attended rural school near his home. After completing his education, he began farming with his father. On Jan. 7, 1941, he was married to Hilda Fischer in the chapel at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton because it was too costly to heat the church. In addition to farming, Mr. Steffes owned and operated Steffes Plumbing and Heating in Templeton. With the help of his sons he built several homes in Templeton, including the home he and his wife moved to in 1977. Mr. Steffes served as Eden Township clerk for many years, and was involved when the school building in Templeton was torn down. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton and a member of Knights of Columbus. When his health began to fail, he became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in April of 2000. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Steffes, of Templeton; seven children and their spouses, Gerald and Charlene Steffes of Omaha, Neb., Larry and Ielene Steffes of Spencer, Karen DeBoth of Manning, Glen and Bev Steffes of Carroll, Joleen and Denny Rohe of Terrell, Texas, Donna and Gary Ocken of Chandler, Ariz., and Gene and Sherri Steffes of Manning; 23 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Herb Steffes and his wife, Eleanor, of North Platte, Neb., and Cletus Steffes of Ft. Dodge; and two sisters, Helen Kasperbauer of Manning and Alma Fuchs of Templeton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Steffes and his wife, Cordellia; a sister, Wilhelmina Irlbeck and her husband, Anselm; two brothers-in-law, Frank Kasperbauer and Donald Fuchs; and a sister-in-law, Rita Steffes.
