Alvin Farris was born March 2, 1919, in Long Pine, Neb., to Malvin and Goldie (McCalment). He moved with his family to South Dakota and they eventually settled near Colome. As a young man, Alvin moved to southern Minnesota to help his sister on their farm. It was there that he met his wife Marvel Morgan. Alvin was drafted into the U.S. Army, and was sent to basic training in Norfolk, Va. He was united in marriage with Marvel in Norfolk, Va., on June 29, 1942 before he was sent to Germany for four years during World War II. Following his military service, Alvin and his family moved to Tofte, Minn, where he worked as a heavy equipment contractor on the Lake Superior Breakwater. They moved to Fort Pierre in 1960 to work on the Oahe Dam. He and his wife moved to Golden LivingCenter in May 2006. Alvin enjoyed hunting and fishing in northern Minnesota with his son Dwainne. Alvin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Minnesota.He also enjoyed gardening, card playing and visiting with family and friends. Alvin is survived by his wife Marvel of Pierre; three daughters Deann (Dr. Michael) Sutley of Minneapolis, Minn., Donnette Anderson (special friend Jake Berndt) of Pierre, Debra (Ed) Stutesman of Pierre; eight grandchildren Kristen and Kelly Sutley, Dena Schaefer, Dwayne, David, and Darin Anderson, Heather and Hollie Stutesman; and 11 great-grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, one son Dwainne, one brother Ivan, one sister Onas, and one infant brother. Capital Journal November 22, 2006
