Visitation will begin on Friday, April 24 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mason Funeral Home. Shirley Quentin Farris was born on February 19, 1925 to Malvin and Goldie Farris in Long Pine, NE. He attended Colome High School. Immediately after graduation he joined the army and was stationed in the Philippines as an infantry mechanic during WW II. Upon returning home he married Lois Mae Hudson on June 30, 1949 in Belle Fourche, SD. Then he came home and worked for Delma Farris and Lyle Manzers Garage. A short time later he was called to serve in Korea as infantry. He was a decorated war hero from both wars. After returning home he and Lois settled down to raise children. He became a car salesman and worked at NAPA for many years. He became very active in the Legion and was a commander at the Winner VFW from 1976-1977. After that he opened a jack shop out of his home. After his retirement, he started the veterans on wheels program and bought the first van for the program. In his free time he enjoyed his childrens sports, boy scouts, carpentry, stock car racing, and playing pitch. Shirley is survived by two daughters; Glenda Knaggee of Tucson, AZ, and Candy Lee of Winner, SD, one son Ron, 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one sister Verlas Vavra of Colome, SD. Preceding him in death were his wife Lois, two sons, Gary and Junior, his sister Onas, and two brothers Alvin and Ivar. www.masonfh.com
